STRUCTURE AND BODY

GROUP (30%)
TASK

This project entails a comprehensive exploration of bamboo and its attributes, complemented by materials such as rope, steel, or fabric. It necessitates delving into the expertise of bamboo specialists and grasping human dimensions for ergonomic considerations.

Based on these insights, a design concept is conceived, amalgamating insights gained earlier. Conceptual notions are then validated through the development of models and prototypes that take into account architectural principles and human scale. Strategic arrangements are crafted for fabricating a mobile bamboo construction on the designated site. The culmination of the project involves the actual construction of the structure, accompanied by the generation of final illustrations and presentation boards.

The Process

01

EXPLORATION

We began by exploring bamboo's qualities, considering additional materials for support. Seeking guidance from a Bamboo Expert, we ensured structural stability and learned proper bamboo handling. Also, we studied ergonomics, measuring bodies and required space for functionality.

02

DESIGN PROCESS

After team discussions, we determined the structure's main purpose: a rest area for individuals with special needs to relax and enjoy the scenery. We developed various test models using input from team members and advice from counselors. The final design was confirmed in week 3, leading into the construction phase.

03

BUILDING PROCESS

Picking one of our team members to be the Construction Leader made finishing the building easier. The leader set the speed and gave directions, making the project go well. As a member, it was great to see everyone following the leader's instructions and working together to complete the project.

The Outcome

After the completion of all constructions on-site, drawings were expeditiously generated. These drawings encompassed abstract tattoo stamps, orthographic drawings, exploded axonometric views, detailed illustrations and some of design process sketches journal neatly presented on A2 boards.
